Seem to remember the regiment was a recent (at taht tilme) merger of a Brum and Welsh brigade. However very few were welsh.

Wasn't The Men Of Harlech thing a myth?

Most countries that were part of the British Empire are in a much better state today than their neighbours who were not.

Not at all mate, just seeing things objectively. I'm very proud of our great generals from days of yore but in the bigger picture I don't see what they did as being that much different from the krauts taking over Europe.

OK I've biten
We took to the seas of the world...and found along the way many countries that are now proudly part of the commonwealth..
The countries we raped as you put it had fuck all going for them before we arrived. History is a fickle thing...pick and choose what suits your agenda.
We gave far more to the world than not.
Yes wrongs were done..but fuck me..you're talking about a long period of time in many countries.
Anyone who isn't ultimately proud of what we have contributed to the world in industry..science..sport
.literature..etc etc...it really saddens me that people really go out of there way to deny this

If it's a miracle, Colour Sergeant, it's a short chamber Boxer Henry point 45 caliber miracle.

And a bayonet, sir, with some guts behind it

Is it right to celebrate heros that helped us to basically rape the world? Not questioning their brilliance but in hindsight maybe it isn't something to dwell on..

Its saddens me actually rubble...that kids today are not taught about our history. Almost as if its a shameful thing.
Not perfect by any means, but big parts of our history seem to want be forgotten about by the great unwashed
..and they seem too be getting their way.

Re: The Battle Of Rorke's Drift
Well there you go.
The Royal Navy were blessed with many good men. They were the senior service and revered in those days, and rightly so.
The empire relied on our navy..the army were not so revered.
